Ok, so I was at the gym the other night, no surprises there!
Anyway, I was doing what I like to do, hitting my Sumo deadlifts, getting my heavy groove on as I always do. I was in the motion of my 1st rep of 140kg when one of the guys in the packed gym walks up into my working space, bends down and picks up the two 10kg plates, which where clearly in front of me & which I was previously using & also preparing to use on my next set and walks away with them plonking them on his EZ Bar!?
What the f#$k just happened there?!?!
He didn’t even bother to ask if I had finished with them?
What made it more rude was that he did it in the middle of my set where I couldn’t say anything? Bloody cheek!!!
So I went up to him and told him I was still using them and that it’s common courtesy to ask if I had finished using them first! He was like er, umm, sorry, I didn’t know. Yeah, you didn’t know because you have no common sense dude! So I took the plates back. Yeah! Don’t mess with Nick the Gymrat!!!
Then on the same night after about 10 minutes later I was about to do my last set of 180kg but I was short two 20kg plates. I went over to the squat rack and saw the two plates I needed on the rack not being used. So out of courtesy I politely ask the two guys that where using the squat rack for benching (while on their rest period of course) if I could use them just for one very quick set…
The young guy looked at me then looked at my 6 plates that was already on my bar, then swung his eyes back at me and said;
OMG!!!! #SERIOUSLY #DONTMAKEMEANGRYNEWBOY
I didn’t want to work myself up & lose focus. I wanted to shout at the guy and tell him that i was working upto my maximum deadlift weight on my strength training program not showing off like he was…
But I didn’t say a word…
I just walked away…
WITH THE TWO DAMN 20KG PLATES IN EACH OF MY HAND & STUCK IT ON MY BAR WITH THE REST OF THE SIX 20KG PLATES THAT I ALREADY HAD ON MY BAR!!!!
Hey, I did ask him politely!
That’s Gym Etiquette!
