I AM THE BIGGEST LOSER PART II

Finish work at 5pm, go home, change into my sweat pants & vest, make my way to my prize possession, my Xbox & Kinect, insert my favourite game and…

WORKOUT OF COURSE!!! WHAT ELSE?

I betcha thought I was going to say Sit back with a bowl of BBQ flavoured Pringles, a 1 litre bottle of Coke and play a whole load of online Call of Duty?!?!

I DON’T THINK SO…

So that was my routine when I finally decided to take control of my health and lifestyle.

At the time I was very reluctant to go the gym having absolutely no idea what to do there and I also wasn’t too keen on spending my spare gaming money on the gym.
So my very thoughtful wife Claire suggested that I make use of my Xbox Kinect and buy one of those fitness games to do at home rather then to join a gym.
Luckily there was a demo of The Biggest Loser game that I could try out.
I tried it & thought I might as well, & I bought the game. (I was so close to buying the Fifa game at the time but got told off from Claire!)
Ok, ok, I got nothing to lose right?

The game was based on the show from the US with the same name. Google or Youtube it if you haven’t heard of it before!

The game gave me options of a 4-8 or 12 week fitness programs. (I chose the 12 week option).
It made me go through proper upper/lower cardio circuit training and even yoga workout routines, monitoring me every step of the way. Not only that but there was also a section on following my nutritional goals and giving me food tips every time I logged in too!
Cool! Just like a legitimate personal fitness trainer would do!

At first I wasn’t too keen to give up my Call of Duty time to this fitness game.  Spending my time exerting my energy to a point of becoming real breathless with exhaustion was not how I wanted to use up my time at home after a tiring day at work, but somehow the game slowly got hold of me & I got drawn to its style.
As if I was on the show myself.
Trying to show people I could do this to better myself. To show my family that I truly wanted to change my lifestyle. Especially with the section in the game where at the end of every week I would have to do a weigh in & compete with several other made up computer competitors.  Making sure I got into the top half of the table in order to progress to the following week.  Just like in the show!

This was a good motivator, to make sure I actually worked out to strip off those pounds! (And aslong as I was inputting my correct stats and not making up weight numbers that I didn’t earn at all! & no I never did that but the thought always came into my head!
That would be so lying to myself!)

Anyway, I really did my best to workout every other day back in  May of 2012.
I kept telling myself to stick with this. Not only was I doing this for my family but more importantly, for my myself, my well being for the future.
I didn’t want to die young! Seriously!
I had to push through this, I needed to be focused as no way was it easy in the beginning. To change my habits just like that? It takes time to adapt.

What made me more determined & motivated was when I was sitting on the train on my way home from work one day. I was looking at my reflection in the window opposite and I thought; huh? I can see my cheek bones! That’s not right?
I turned my face to the side and noticed that my chubby cheeks had gone & you could see the shape if my jaw line.
Then I remembered, oh yeah! So this happens when you consistently workout and eat properly! You lose weight! So this fitness malarkey does work!

Since then I haven’t looked back since.
I feel healthier, stronger and I’m looking better then I have ever looked before.

Yeah baby!!!!

For about 9 months (Three 12 week training programs later) and with alot of hard, patience and determination I managed to knock down from about 100kg to approximately 87kg.

Me now in 2015

I’m currently weighing in around 81g-82kg as of June 2015.

So if you have a console with a motion tracker & for whatever excuse that you cant go to the gym, make use of it & workout at home! Right? No more excuses!

WHO SAID PLAYING GAMES ON CONSOLES WAS BAD FOR YOU? LOL!

THE TIME IS NOW!

THANK YOU BIGGEST LOSER!
